Rapeseed-mustard have a prominent position in Indian edible oil economy. Mustard oil from crushed seeds occupies an important place in countries food habits. The competitive ability of a rapeseed/mustard plant in its community depends greatly upon the density of plants per unit area and soil fertility status. Optimum crop geometry, balanced NPK fertilizers, intercultures and inclusion of farmyard manure are the building blocks for achieving the utmost yield targets of rapeseed-mustard. These are the pre-requisites for better interception of sunlight to proceed the maximum utilization of solar energy and applied nutrients for synthesizing more photosynthates. Proper row spacing is beneficial for developing more primary and secondary branches. Adequate nutrient supply increases the seed and oil yields by improving the setting pattern of siliquae on branches, number of siliquae/plant and other yield attributes. Inclusion of farmyard manure augmenting the nutrient supply and helps in improving the soil physical properties. While, intercultures minimize the weed infestation and unuseful losses of nutrients.
