Reproductive biology of Oreochromis mossambicus (Peters) in Nellore and Survepalli Reservoirs, Andhra Pradesh

Reproductive biology of Oreochromis mossambicus was investigated from March, 2007 to March, 2008 from Nellore and Survepalli Reservoirs, Andhra Pradesh. The length of maturity was calculated to be 152 mm. Sex ratio indicated significant predominance of males. Absolute fecundity varied from 523 to 923 eggs for the fish weight of 60 to 147 g respectively, while, the relative fecundity ranged from 6 to 9 eggs/g of fish body weight. Ripe females were found to be accounted highest during January followedby November and spent during July. Gonado-Somatic Index was high in March, 2008 and minimum during September, whereas, condition factor (K) revealed maximum values during May and minimum March, 2008 for both the sexes.
