Ionic liquids(IL)are low-melting salts,thus forming liquids that consist of cations and anions only.Recently,Swat-loski et al.have described that IL may dissolve cellulose quite easily.In the frame of our work in the field of structure design of cellulose derivatives,various ILs namely 1-N-butyl-3-meth-ylimidazolium chloride([C4mim]~+Cl~-),1-N-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride([C2mim]~+Cl~-),1-N-butyldimethylimi-dazolium chloride([C4dmim]~+Cl~-)and 1-N-allyldimethylimidazolium bromide([Admim]~+Br~-)were studied as solvents for the homogeneous chemical modification of the bionolvmer cellulose including bacterial cellulose of high molar mass.
