The traffic-control system on the Hanshin expressway

The Hanshin Expressway Traffic Control System was developed in 1970 by the Hanshin Expressway Public Corporation with a view to fulfilling functions of the expressway network to the utmost. Since then, the system has been advanced on the basis of the consistent design concept. The major role of the system is to provide road users comfortable driving by realizing traffic safety and smoothing traffic flow. To this end, the system reduces traffic congestion by the use of the on-ramp control, and disseminates suitable traffic information to road users so as to assist them in selecting suitable routes to their destinations.
