The land regeneration sector has had its fair share of challenges during the economic downturn but, as confidence grows and the market picks up, developers and land-owners may find a number of changes have occurred during this period, particularly for implementing remedial strategies. For example, the cessation of landfill tax exemption at the end of 2008 on the disposal of contaminated soil has brought about the demise of any large-scale 'dig and dump' as a viable cost-effective option for land remediation; regulators are demanding more stringent controls in the wake of high profile legal cases such as the Corby case where the Council became the first local authority to be found liable for negligence in the control and management of remediation works
