Directional casing drilling technology increases ROP and ensures success when drilling through complex formations in high angle wells. Wells drilled with standard drillpipe in mature fields and new wells mat require drilling through hazardous zones can sometimes require additional casing strings to avoid well stability problems. TESCO Corp.'s casing drilling process uses standard oilfield casing to drill the well and then leaves the casing in place to case the well to improve wellbore stability and well control. The process results in a 20% to 30% or greater increase in drilling performance by eliminating trips and associated problems while resulting in better cement jobs, sometimes with significantly lower cement volumes.
