Thespians of the Northern Region took to the stage at the iconic Grade 1 listed Newcastle Theatre Royal, which remains one of the most historic, cultural landmarks in the country and continues to dominate the heart of Newcastle's Grainger Town. The Theatre Royal is one of the most famous theatres in the country and in its 175-year history has played host to the biggest names in dance, drama, music and comedy. The Northern Region hit the big city having secured a special, free summer visit at the exclusive venue. We hit the 'toon' on the afternoon of 31 August where we received an exclusive restoration tour with Peter Hall of Sansome Hall Architects, the mastermind commissioned as architect and project lead for the ?4,500,000 grand design refurbishment. We learnt of the history that sat behind the theatre, which was originally designed by Frank Matcham.
