Aluminium production involves two inde pendent processes for converting naturally occurring aluminium oxide ores to the extracted metal. The first stage is the refining of bauxite ore to alumina, which is also known as aluminium oxide. The second stage is the reduction process of alumina to aluminium metal, in a primary smelter.
