While I'm writing this we are in the middle of a heat wave - the thermometer reads 30 degrees outside! Even the persistent lawn mowers have moved inside. In these lazy, hazy days of summer, the president's diary isn't very full so I've been able to catch up with some family activities, going out with friends, having a barbecue and a couple of nights away. All ventures, along with a few ABE engagements, have sent me northward, up the AIM, M6, M18, M52 and, just for good measure, the M1. he first of these journeys was to Penrith in Cumbria. For these sorts of journeys I usually use the AA-route planner but this time I had a back seat driver, my new gadget, a GPS navigation system. You tell it where you want to go, it works out where you are and 'tells' you how to get there, it even talks you through those complicated motorway junctions. I must say I was very impressed with it. Trying to confuse the voice in the box was no simple task and she didn't even raise her voice, want to stop for a coffee or throw the map at me.
