Return to Hoylake: The 2006 Open comes back to Royal Liverpool

In the intervening period there have been changes to the links and in particular recent upgrading of the course and facilities to ensure the Championship standard is achieved. The clubhouse has been refurbished at a cost of over ￡2m and alterations and additions include a new reception area and upgraded professional's shop, kitchens, locker rooms and showers, as well as general decor. There has been no need for major lengthening of the course as Royal Liverpool has always kept up to Championship requirements over the years through the major events it has hosted. Indeed, it is interesting to note that the course measured 6,995 yards the last time it held The Open in 1967. Nevertheless, changes have been made and the new length of 7,258 yards incorporates green and tee upgrades.
