InterOil Flexible on LNG

Canadian independent InterOil said Tuesday its planned LNG project in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will offer Asian buyers more flexibility in term contracts, given the current buyers' market. The LNG market faces a supply glut over the next two years as new liquefaction plants come on stream. North West Shelf marketing arm Australia LNG told a Perth conference it sees supply outstripping demand from 2009-12 (IOD May28,p6). That gives more bargaining power to buyers, who are seeking more volume flexibility and less stringent take-or-pay clauses, as well as more destination flexibility and diversion rights.
