Future growth in US oil refining capacity is expected to be slow because of low demand for petroleum due to the weak economy greater use of ethanol and consumers shifting to more fuel-efficient vehicles, according to the government's energy forecasting agency. US oil refiners added just under 78,000 b/d of refining capacity during 2008, as the weak economy dampened demand, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said.
