Cash-strapped state Naftogaz Ukrainy on Wednesday posted a net loss for 2008 after being hit by costly Russian imports and the depreciation of the Ukrainian hryvnia. Naftogaz, whose failure to publish its 2008 financial statements by a Jul. 31 deadline was seen by some investors as evidence of a default, recorded a loss of 2 billion hryvnia ($240 million), up from a loss of 66 million hryvnia in 2007.
