India Buys Spot LNG After BG Shutdown

State gas utility Gail India on Wednesday imported the first LNG cargo it has bought on the spot market since Apr. 1, the start of its fiscal year. The cargo was brought in via Petronet LNG's Dahej regasification terminal in the western state of Gujarat. The LNG was bought from the UK's BG, Gail Chairman and Managing Director B C Tripathi said on the sidelines of a sharehold- er meeting in New Delhi Wednesday. Tripati refused to identify the cargo's country of ori- gin, but industry sources say it may have come from Equatorial Guinea. Gail bought the LNG for around $8.30/MMBtu.
