Iran is suspending the Pars LNG project led by French Total, deputy oil minister for planning Mohsen Khojastemehr told the oil ministry’s Shana website. Gas from phase 11 of Iran’s giant South Pars field, initially slated for Pars LNG, will now be used to supply the domestic market, Khojastemehr said. National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) announced only days earlier a halt to Royal Dutch Shell and Repsol YPF’s Persian LNG venture, centered on exploiting gas from Phases 13 and 14 of South Pars, saying it would focus on pipeline exports instead (IOD Aug.10,p2). Repsol announced its withdrawal from the project in May.
