Qatar has opened the world's largest LNG train, the first of six 7.8 million ton/yr trains that the Mideast Gulf producer will bring on stream by the end of 2010 to boost production capacity to 77 million tons/yr. Top officials from Exxon Mobil, Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Total were on hand for the official launch of Qatargas Train 4 (Qatargas- 2 Train 1) at Ras Laffan on Monday. Train 4 missed its target of coming on stream by the winter of 2007-08 because of delays caused by an overheated construction market and technical difficulties in the commissioning phase (IOD Feb.2,p4). When Train 4 is fully on stream, Qatar - already the world's largest LNG producer - will be able to produce 38 million tons/yr of LNG.
