Petronas Starts Drilling in Northern Vietnam's Song Hong Basin

Malaysian state Petronas is planning to restart drilling at the Yen Tu-1X well in Blocks 102 and 106 in northern Vietnam's Song Hong Basin. Drilling results for the well are expected by the end of March.The Malaysian oil firm last conducted drilling at the Yen Tu-1x well in 2004, which was plugged and abandoned despite encountering oil and gas deposits. But the field was reopened last year after the nearby Ham Rong 1X well was successfully appraised in June (IOD Nov.29,'06,p8). This came after Vietnam in May approved an $85 million budget to drill Blocks 102 and 106.
