Today, the heads of most of the world's biggest listed oil companies would tend to agree that carbon emissions need to be reduced in the fight against climate change. Where they seem to disagree is on the best way of going about it - whether a tax on carbon would be better than the kind of cap-and-trade system in place in the European Union. Paolo Scaroni, the head of Italian major Eni, is firmly in favor of the tax.
