Zinc and cadmium complexes of pyridyl-benzotriazole: Syntheses, structures and supramolecular interaction

Five novel complexes with two pyridine substituted benzotriazole ligands, 1-(2-pyridyl)benzotriazole (L1) and 1-(4-pyridyl)benzotriazole (L2), [Zn(L-1)(2)Cl-2](1), [{Zn(L-1)(2)Cl-2} (C)(L1)2](2), [Zn(L-2)(2)Cl-2](3), [{Zn(L2)(H2O)(3)(mu(2)-SO4)}center dot H2O] (4), and [{Cd(L2)(H2O)(3)(mu(2)-SO4)}center dot H2O](5) were synthesized. The details of the structures were characterized by X-ray single crystal analysis, revealing that these complexes were assembled together via supramolecular interaction, such as, hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interactions. The influence of organic ligands, anions and reaction conditions in the formation of the complexes were investigated.
