Most employers and employees have heard the term "employment-at-will." But what really is employment-at-will? In theory, the employment-at-will doctrine would allow an employee to be terminated for any reason or no reason at all at any time with no prior warning. The employee could be terminated for embezzling company funds or because an employer woke up on the wrong side of the bed and decided someone should be fired. While this may technically be within the parameters of employment-at-will, in the current legal environment, employment-at-will does not provide the same protections for employers that it used to.
