Constructing a building or structure near an already existing tunnel may render a negative influence on the tunnel lining stress state and result in a substantial decrease of its safety factor. That is why it is necessary to evaluate that effect when planning the location of an erected building in relation to the tunnel to avoid the risk of losing the tunnel lining bearing capacity. To achieve this aim a method was developed at Tula State University to determine the safety factor of a circular shallow tunnel lining undergoing additional surface loads.
