Objective: To describe an uncommon case of acute necrotising encephalopathy of childhood Case report: Acute necrotizing encephalopathy of childhood (ANEC) is a clinical neurological entity that predominantly affects young children in Far Eastern countries. It presents with rapid onset encephalopathy in a previously healthy child after an episode of viral-like illness. The characteristic findings of this novel entity are multifocal brain lesion symmetrically distributed in the thalami, brainstem, tegmentum, cerebral periventricular white matter and cerebella medulla.Conclusion: We report an uncommon case of influenza B virus infection in a 7-year-old Malay boy with acute necrotizing encephalopathy. This case is interesting because of its rarity, the striking MRI findings and the good neurological outcome.
