Afield experiment was conducted to study the effect of rice residue in-situ incorporation using cellulose degrading fungi and phosphocompost alone or in combination on different soil properties. The soil was Alfisol with sandy clay loam texture. Wlieat was taken as test crop in rice-wheat sequence under irrigated condition. Straw of rice crop was incorporated one month advance in the same plots of experiment to evaluate the effect of straw in the wlieat crop. The results revealed that incorporation of rice residue along with phospho-compost significantly increased O.C., pH, available nutrients (N, P & K), NH_4-N and NO_3-N of the experimental soil. Rest of the treatments viz.: residue burnt + phosphocompost, residue incorporation + cellulose degrading fungi, residue incorporation alone, also improved the soil chemical properties significantly compared to the control, but remained at par with each other in most of the cases. The residue burning alone was non-significant in comparison to the control.It is concluded that rice straw incorporation through cellulose degrading fungi as well as phosphocompost found beneficial in improving soil fertility.
