Qatar navigates lower oil price environment

Qatar’s policy response to the pressure exerted by lower oil prices on its economy has so far been “adequate”, the IMF says. The country’s initiatives to balance its fiscal position have included cuts to expenditure and efforts to boost non-oil revenues, as well as the reduction of some subsidies, the IMF says. The organisation forecasts Qatar’s nominal GDP bottoming out at 568.4bn riyals ($156bn) in 2016, down from QR599.3bn a year earlier and QR750.7bn in 2014.
