HHI to have RD push

South Korean big hitter Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is preparing to invest heavily in Research and Development (RD) over the next five years as the group starts its journey as four separate companies. HHI will spend US $3.1 Bn up to 2021 on RD, with a goal of between 6 and 7 of revenue to be spent each year on research. One of the four business units, created after a restructuring that was announced in November 2016, and which came into effect recently, retains the name HHI. This unit will invest $1.8 Bn in enhancing its offshore engineering capabilities, developing eco-friendly ships and establishing a 'smart shipyard'.
