Plant hire boss jailed for two years after fatal MEWP collapse

The director of a plant hire firm who took the decision not to replace the broken boom on a MEWP that later failed, killing worker Gary Currie, has been jailed for two years. On 9 December, Donald Craig, 57, was found guilty of breaching Section 37(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act after a trial at Airdrie Sheriff Court, and was sentenced to the maximum penalty of two years in prison.
