RIGHTLY OR NOT, depending on your point of view, trawling with rockhopper gear elicits either widespread resistance, or enthusiastic defence.In any case, the rockhopper gear enables trawling over either stony grounds, or muddy and sandy ones with protruding rocks, without snagging on them or chafing the trawl's netting on rough sea bottom. The rockhopper gear, by keeping the trawl net's lower netting and footrope off the bottom, saves repair time and money on one hand, but reduces flatfish catches on the other.
