Global benchmark Brent averted what seemed an inevitable slide in thin trade during a short pre- Christmas trading day and bounced back from a $50.62 low to end comfortably above $51 a barrel. Brent started the day on the backfoot with low selling volumes forcing a steady slide from a high of $51.77 that was reached during Asian trading hours, before the reversal of fortune around London lunch time and the start of trading in New York.
