Charting a new course: developments from the 2005 general meeting

I AM WRITING THIS COLUMN AT the conclusion of the 2005 General Meeting held in San Francisco, California. This is my final contribution to IEEE Power Energy Magazine as president-elect. It also provides an opportunity to discuss the status of the "Power System Basics for Non-Engineering Professionals" course and the status of a number of additional items in progress within the IEEE Power Engineering Society (PES).
