摘要

Field study was conducted to evaluate the performance of different open pan furnace systems used for jaggery making in Karnataka. It was observed that 130.54, 200, 257.29 and 324.15 lit./hr juice boiling rate, 106.27, 162.80, 209.43 and 263.85 lit./hrwater evaporation rate was observed in single, double, triple and four pan furnace system, furtherl6.17, 20.58 and 25.14 per cent over all efficiency, 12.08, 31.43 and 43. 29 per cent saving of bagasse as fuel, 53.33, 97.28 and 148.52 per cent increasein production rate and Rs 17.00, 16.85 and 16.75 per kg of jaggery produced by adopting double, triple and four pan furnace systems respectively over single pan furnace system. Adoption of double, triple and four pan furnace systems for jaggery making depending upon the initial investment capacity of the farmer / entrepreneur and availability of sugarcane for crushing found to be more beneficial over single pan furnace system with respect to saving of time, fuel and cost of production with higher efficiency.
