A cohesive zone model is proposed and analyzedfor steady-state peeling of a thin rate-independent, elastic-plasticfilm bonded to an elastic substrate. A traction-separationdescription of the interface is embedded within continuumcharacterizations of the film and substrate. The primaryparameters characterizing the traction-separation relation are thework of adhesion and the peak separation stress. Termed theinterface strength. The objective of the study is the determinationof the relationship of the peel force to the work of adhesion ofthe interface and its strength, with due regard for plasticdeformation in the film. An example of an elastic film peeledfrom an elastic-plastic substrate is also presented.
