Application software development for engineering problem solving requires robust analytical methods, object-oriented modelling and engineering multimedia for knowledge management and communication. As an example, concurrent engineering represents a structured, logical framework that supports a systematic approach to the integrated, environmentally conscious, concurrent design of products and their related processes, including manufacture, support and demanufacture. This method is intended to ensure that developers consider all elements of several product lifecycles from conception through to final disposal. In contrast with the conventional, or sequential, product design methods, concurrent engineering utilizes customer relations management and other multimedia Internet software tools because it focuses on customer satisfaction, on virtual teamwork as well as on design for manufacturing, for environment, for assembly, for disassembly and quality issues on a global basis. Based on the above introduction, it is essential to understand that none of the concurrent methods, or other engineering methods, works in practice unless it is skillfully applied to all levels of the enterprise, introduced gradually, and managed by people who understand and support it. Since the modern enterprise is knowledge driven, and consequently Internet and software controlled, the analytical consideration of engineering multimedia system design within an object-oriented architecture is essential.
