摘要

Serious shortcomings in the care of diabetic inpatients in hospitals in England and Wales are revealed in a recent audit, National Diabetes Inpatient Audit (NaDIA) by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) (NHS Information Centre, 2012). The audit was managed by the HSCIS, in partnership with Diabetes UK, and commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership. It found that nearly one in three hospital patients with diabetes are affected by errors that can result in dangerously high blood glucose levels. In hospitals in England and Wales, 3700 inpatients with diabetes had at least one medication error in their treatment, in a 1-week period. The HSCIC is a special health authority and England's authoritative, central, independent source of health and social-care information, and they work with a wide range of health and social-care providers nationwide to provide the facts and figures that help the NHS and social services run effectively. They do this by collecting data and analysing it, and then converting it into useful information.
