An incontinence pad is an incontinence pad - or is it?

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a very common health problem, especially in the elderly people, and there is no doubt that incontinence pads may improve the quality of life for those who find the right pad for them. The aim of this study titled 'Sex differences in the use of absorbent pads in independently living elderly people' was to examine the use and satisfaction of absorbent (incontinence) pads in independently living men and women aged 60 years and over with UI. A total of 56 men and 314 women were recruited from nine family practices in the Netherlands. The results showed that 15% of the men and 87% of the women with UI reported using pads. All of the men and almost all of the women used different types of absorbent pads, and only half of the men and two-thirds of the women felt satisfied with the pads.
