Pasture quality of sundarbans and nutritional status of Bengal sheep

Survey of fodder resources in five blocks of Sundarbans Viz. Joynagar I & II, Mathurapur I & II and Kultali revealed that Cynodon dactylon (doob) was the major species of covering 54.93 percent of grass land of the area. The region was poor in feed resources as the overall dry matter yield of surface grass was only 1.55+-0.04 tonnes per hectare which in rainy season dropped down to 1.32+-0.02 tonnes per hectare.
