A review: factors affecting acrosome reaction of spermatozoa

摘要

Modern reproductive techniques such as embryo transfer, in vvitro fertilization, embryo micromanipulation, cloning, sexing etc. are emerging as prominent means to enhance the speed of manipulation of better germ plasm. However, the entire process ofanimal reproduction is concentrated around the process of fertilization, essentially the fusion of male and female gametes. Successful fertilization whether in Vitro or in Vivo Requires maturation of spermatozoa. The maturation takes place in the two phases, viz Pre and post-ejaculation. The pre-ejaculation changes occurs inside epididymis where artificial manipulation is not possible. The spermatozoa just after release/ejaculation or deposition inside female reproductive tract do not havee capacity topenetrate and fertilize the oocyte. The post-ejaculation changes occur in female reproductive tract as the spermatozoa move towards the site of fertilization called acrosome reaction. It is believed that only acrosome reacted sperms can fuse with the oocyte for fertilization. Therefore, acrosome reaction is must for successful fertilization Several different techniques have been used for in vitro acrosome reaction of spermatozoa. In the present paper an attempt have been made to review various factorsaffecting acrosome reaction.
