Toxins of staphylococci of animal origin.

82 coagulase positive and 20 coagulase negative strains of staphylococci were isolated from milk samples of normal and mastitis cows, and nasal and abscess swabs of cows and pigs were examined for toxigenic patterns. Of the 82 coagulase positive strains, 5 (6.09%) alpha, 12 (14.63%) beta and 5 (6.09%) delta haemolysin strains were identified in rabbit, sheep and horse blood agar plates respectively. The remainder reacted with more than one type of red cells; 16 (19.51%) gave alpha-beta, 13 (15.85%)alpha-delta, 10 (12.19%) beta-delta and 15 (18.29%) alpha-beta-delta haemolysin. Of the coagulase positive group 6 (7.31%) strains were non-haemolytic. Of the 20 coagulase negative strains 4 (20%) showed alphalysin and 4 showed alpha-delta.
