Humility in nursing.

To discuss the subject of humility is essential to becoming a good nurse. My attention to the importance of this concept was aroused when some one recently questioned my practice. That I should be criticised was at first an affront to my dignity, respect and status and yet the more I explored my feelings the more I discovered that I was behaving aggressively arrogantly and with little consideration to others' opinions about my nursing care. 'How dare people criticise me' was my first response, 'I am doing all I can'. But on reflection, was I really following the fundamental principles of nursing and always putting my patients first?
