Washington D.C.-Saying critics are frat wrong, Alaska Senator Frank Murkowski, said a proposed bi-partisan mining reform bill will solve problems identified with the nation's mining industry, while preserving jobs and protecting the environment, Murkowski, Chairman of the energy and Natural Resources Committee, was responding to comments by Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt and U.S. representative George Miller (D-CA), who said that the bi-partisan bill introduced March 7 would not solve all the problems with the U.S. mining industry. "The truth is that there is not one criticism of the Craig-Murkowski bill leveled by Secretary Babbitt that has any merit. The facts contradict all of the charges made by Secretary Babbitt and Rep. Miller."
