We welcome the opportunity to reaffirm our 2013 paper (Glen et al. 2013) and to respond to the preceding discussion submitted by Burton & Trigg (2014). Their discussion questions some interpretations of our paper, which led us to infer that the southern part of the Thomson Orogen extends from Queensland south into the Tilpa-Louth-Bourke region of northwestern part of New South Wales (Figure 1). Burton & Trigg (2014), instead, wish to establish geochronological, stratigraphic and geophysical property affinities of rocks in this region with those of the Lachlan Orogen, in particular the Girilambone Group, rather than with rocks of the Thomson Orogen. That preference is in line with the 2010 AJES paper of Burton (2010), which used structural modelling and geophysical imagery to interpret the small amounts of outcropping (sensu lato) bedrock (as well as covered basement) in the region as part of a greater Lachlan Orogen that extended several hundred kilometres north into central Queensland.
