Medication - beware of pitfalls

Of the various causes of infectious disease all, except the viruses, can be treated by appropriate medication. This article will consider some of the treatments available and how they can be best administered. The main causes of disease and the typesof medication used to treat them are detailed in Table 1. Of the causes listed most medication is used to treat bacterial diseases. For any medication to work it must get to the site of infection and remain there for a long enough period of time for itsdesired action to occur.
