摘要

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic skin disorder characterised by repeated skin I breakdown and the predisposition of chronic wound formation. The management of wound bioburden and prevention of wound bed trauma are central aspects of the care of people with the disorder. This article will focus on how it poses particular challenges to the clinician, and how control of bioburden can be optimised without impacting on systemic functions. There are four major types: EB simplex, junc-tional EB, dystrophic EB and, most recently added to the group, Kindler syndrome (Fine et al, 2008). Within these four major categories, there are many different sub-types, with the common factor being an extreme fragility of the skin and mucous membranes, predisposing the individual to blistering and skin loss from minimal trauma.
