Model Predictive Current Control of a Two-level Five-phase Voltage Source Inverter

The paper analyzes model based predictive current control of a two-level five-phase voltage source inverter considering a finite set of control actions. The space vector model of a five-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) yields 32 vectors, with thirty active and two zero vectors. The paper compares the performance of the current controller by utilizing different sets of switching state vectors. An algorithm performs a search to find the vector which minimizes the chosen cost function. It is shown that the performance of the current control depends upon the choice of the cost function, the number of vectors used, and the sampling time. The performance achieved using proposed model predictive control (MPC) and space vector PWM (SVPWM) is also compared. Common mode voltage generated due to the MPC and SVPWM methods are analysed. It is shown that the choice of proper zero space vector plays a key role in reducing the common mode voltage. The developed technique is tested for RLE load using simulation approach.
