Environmentally-friendly transportation of limestone for cement production

Limestone transportation in those mines which are located in hilly topography involves the use of long lengths of roads in order to transport the material from hill top to bottom or from one hill to another. In an attempt to avoid the need for the circuitous path of hill roads and to control the ill effects of environmental pollution, this paper gives an account of environmentally-friendly transportation alternatives for transportation of limestone which is being produced in surface mines/quarries. These techniques are suitable and economical for Run-of-Mine (ROM) limestone transportation and are applicable for sensitive/fragile hill areas or any other areas of similar topography.An analysis of the most economical and feasible transport alternative for limestone handling has been done on case study basis.
