From the test results obtained and comparisons with previous studies, it may be concluded that the characteristics of air pressure drops in pneumatic conveying pipelines for a dense phase flow depend upon the type of materials being conveyed. For calcium hydroxide, studied here, the pressure drop gradient in the straight horizontal pipelines is independent of the local conveying air velocity. The pressure drop gradients for calcium hydroxide only exhibit a corrletion with suspension density of solids in the straight sections. Based on the determination, an empirical model has been developed, although bend pressure drops for calcium hydroxide have not been discussed here. Comparisons of results show that the predictions for the total pressure drop across the entire pipeline have a very good agreement with the test results.
