Assessment of Performance of TADAS Dampers for the Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings

摘要

In present study, the effect of the yielding dampers on seismic behavior of structures and their application in retrofitting is studied. In this regard, in order to observe the effect of these types of dampers, three eight-story reinforced concrete buildings, with the same characteristics and different seismic resistant systems were studied. Three different seismic resistant systems include the structure with the damper, without the damper and with Chevron bracing. At first, a damper with available experimental results was modeled in Abaqus CAE software, and the results was compared and verified with experimental results. The designed dampers were then modeled and analyzed in Abaqus software. Hysteretic curve derived from Abaqus was used for the structure with damper in the SAP2000 software. Finally, the results obtained from the nonlinear time history analysis of three above-mentioned structures were compared together. The obtained results indicated that the use of TADAS dampers in reinforced concrete buildings enhances capability of the energy absorption and improves the dynamic behavior of structures, including a reduction in base shear, relativestory displacement and the internal forces of structurzal members.
