Comparison of MAC Protocols of Wireless Sensor Networks

摘要

Major problems in the Medium Access Control (MAC) of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are: more energy consumption, more duty cycle, less packet delivery rate. So, this paper focuses on these problems and presents two MAC protocols that help to solve these problems. Performance of the MAC protocols is compared by implementing them. One MAC protocol is hop-extended MAC protocol and second one is Diff-MAC. Energy consumption, average latency and packet delivery rate of these two protocols are compared. Through MATLAB simulations, it is observed that energy consumption and packet latency of HE-MAC is less as compared to Diff-MAC and delivery rate is more.
