摘要

The Tele-Earthwork System is a remote-controlled system that performs a series of 'earthwork' composed of digging loading, transporting and disposal. In this system, a heavy machinery control room is installed at a safe place away from the danger area. From this room a operator performs the above-mentioned series of tasks while observing three-dimensional images, computed graphics and many in-process displays on the monitor, all of which are transmitted via a mobile radio relay car. As the first applications of the 'Test Field System' the Ministry of Construction invited public participation in submitting technical proposals for 'remote-controlled earthwork in Unzen' in order to remove sand that had been accumulated on the debris flow containment area. In response, we proposed the Tele-Earthwork System and the system was selected. We completed the restoration project's first phase as well as second phase (emergency soil-removing work along the more upper stream to prepare for the typhoon season starting in September) by using the Tele-Earthwork System. Having verified the practical utility of the system for remote-controlled earthwork based on the results of these test operations, we then applied it to full-scale earthwork. The work performed by the Tele-Earthwork System thus far has verified its utility and yielded better results than we had expected at the planning stage. This brought us a step closer to achieving a practical system for remote-controlled earthwork, thereby presenting signs that efforts are proceeding to develop an earthwork and foundation work capability to the 21st century.
