One of the most important areas of bulk solids handling is the efficient flow of materials at transfer points within the system. Bulk material transfer points are found in a wide range of industries, including mining, mineral processing, chemical processing, thermal power plants and many others that deal with bulk solids. Many relatively simplistic models have been developed for trajectory prediction. This paper reviews the common methods available to predict material trajectories off belt conveyors and impact plates. Existing models that are inaccurate in predicting the relevant transfer point aspects and the areas where they are deficient are identified.
