Progressive Damage Finite Element Analysis of Composite Laminates Repaired by Pinned Patches

摘要

Three-dimensional progressive damage models based on continuum-based criteria and contact conditions have been used to predict the failure mechanism of damaged laminate plates repaired by pinned patches. 3D FE modeling is performed using the commercial FE code. Through studying pinned patches with different pin diameters, the results show that when the laminate plates are repaired, the various forms of failure are postponed. Furthermore, while the patch reaches failure, the repaired laminate plate reaches ultimate failure consequently, and the ultimate failure load of the repaired laminate plate is greater than the load of the non-repaired laminate plates. Moreover, with the increase of pin diameter and weight, the failure load increment decreased.
